Remove Pest Infestations

It’s common for critters like mice and insects to infest vehicles in storage. Before starting your bike, make sure that you check your exhaust, storage areas, and any burrowing points to see there aren’t any pests still living in them.

Give it a Thorough Wash

Now, you’ll want to wash your motorcycle to make it cleaner and more appealing. Scrub any stains and look over your model to find any dents or scratches, which can affect your safety and riding experience. If you spot any problems, get them fixed as soon as possible.

Check All Fluids

Next, you’ll want to check the fluids in your motorcycle, including oil, brake, transmission fluids, and fuel in your fuel tank.

Use a dipstick to test the oil for color and consistency and top it off if it’s low. If the oil appears dark-colored and sludgy, replace it immediately. If you notice any metallic flakes in it, you’ll want to seek expert assistance instead. You’ll also need to refill your fuel tank before hitting the road.

Examine the Chassis

Another spring preparation tip is to check the chassis for any damages or cracks in the weld lines. Check your owner’s manual for any recommendations on greasing the flex points and linkages and use a good-quality solution to lubricate them.

Recharge Your Battery

If you removed the battery when storing your motorcycle, all you’ll need to do now is hook it back up. However, if you kept it attached to your bike, you might want to recharge it fully or replace it.

Inspect Your Tires

Finally, you’ll want to look over your tires to make sure that they are ready for your trip. Use a tire pressure gauge to check the air pressure and adjust it to your manufacturer’s recommendations. You’ll also want to check the tread and sidewalls of your tires and replace a bad tire before leaving home.
Now that you are more familiar with the steps to follow when preparing your motorcycle for your spring riding trips, you are ready to plan your next outing.
