In addition to the speed, freedom, and level of exercise it provides – riding a motorcycle is fun! Although riding a bike is very different from driving a car, the safety quotient on the road is the same. Keep our safety tips handy!

Conduct Regular Pre-Ride Inspections

By taking proactive safety measures, you can not only add life to your bike and make the riding experience pleasurable but also safe. Thorough inspection can help you find potential issues that can crop up unexpectedly during a trip.

Ensure that you:

  • Check the tires to see if the tread and inflation levels are as per the manufacturer’s recommendation.

  • Examine and top off if the oil, coolant, or brake fluid levels are low.

  • Assess the gas tank and refill as required. It’s always a good idea to hit the road with a full tank to avoid inconvenience during the journey.

  • Keep the clutch, throttle, brakes, and chains in good working order.

Wear Safety Gear

Never take your safety for granted. Invest in good quality safety gear, such as a well-fitting helmet, a pair of protective gloves and goggles, and motorcycle boots. Ensure that you are well-protected with the gear, every time you take your bike out on the road.

Practice Defensive Riding

Don’t be an aggressive rider and never drink and ride. Also, make yourself visible to other motorists by wearing bright clothes and preferably paint your bike in a bright color, too. Other than that, be cautious while you overtake and reduce the speed of your bike at the bends. Know the route – it helps you avoid potholes and peak traffic conditions.

Avoid Distractions

Losing focus on the road while you are riding can be very risky. Be mindful of the oncoming and passing traffic whether you are leaving an intersection or merging onto a highway. Always follow the traffic rules and keep a check on the speed. Distractions can lead to accidents and bikers are particularly more vulnerable than people traveling in a car.

Check the Weather Forecast

Your bike wouldn’t protect you the way your car would, even from the elements. As a best practice, check the weather forecast before you take your motorcycle out, especially if extreme weather conditions are expected. While severe heat can leave you dehydrated, rain and hail storms can reduce visibility and make your riding experience extremely dangerous. Avoid hitting the roads if it’s anything more than a light drizzle.

Follow these tips to stay safe on the road and enjoy the riding experience to its fullest. And, if you need help upgrading, accessorizing, or customizing your bike, head to Boise Triumph, in Idaho. We are happy to serve all those in Nampa, too.
