If you’re interested in saving money on your motorcycle purchase, buying used is a great strategy. However, the used motorcycle can be difficult to navigate, especially if this is your first time buying. This used motorcycle buying guide from Boise Indian® Triumph® Motorcycle can help you find the right model for you.

Create a Budget

Maintenance costs, licensing fees, insurance, and the cost of purchasing riding gear can add up quickly. A budget will help you keep track of all these extra costs, as well as establish a maximum spending limit. Before you start looking for a used motorcycle, create a budget.

Conduct a Thorough Inspection

Once you’ve found a used motorcycle that you’re interested in purchasing, your next step will be to inspect it. An inspection is the best way to get a general idea of the kind of condition that the used motorcycle is in. If you’re not confident in your ability to pull off a proper inspection, ask a mechanic to perform the inspection for you. You should also ask to see a copy of the used motorcycle’s maintenance history. An incomplete maintenance history may indicate that the used motorcycle’s previous owners were negligent when it came to upkeep.

Take the Motorcycle for a Test Drive

If the inspection comes up clean, your next step should be to ask for a test drive. This step is almost as important as the inspection since it will give you a better idea of how the used motorcycle performs under real conditions and how it will “feel” to ride. Even if the used motorcycle performs well, it might not “fit” you in an ergonomic sense.
